Rear wheel bearing spacer?
I've just replaced a rear wheel bearing which had the ball bearing type with a taper roller type. I notice in the haynes it says there is a 'distance piece' or 'spacer' between the two bearings. There was no such spacer included in the new bearing kit and the old bearings (which have seen some considerable service) did not have one either. Is this right and should i have one? Dangerous if not fitted?

Diff end cover bronze bush replacement (advice please?)
Hi all, mini newbie needs a bit of help!
Got a kit-car last week that needs a bit of fettling. Its fitted with a 1971 1275 mini engine in the back using the whole front subframe and suspension etc at the rear (also uses a 2nd front subframe in the front too). The engine has various leaks on it but with the aid of minispares, i've purchased a complete gasket set for the engine and all oil seals, wheel bearings and suspension bushes etc too (it still hurts!). After splitting the diff end covers and removing the black stuff, i've popped the oil seal out but the bronze bushes in both covers are putting up a decent fight. Had a socket with a perfect fit in there and "pursuaded" them a little with thors spare hammer but they wont shift. Didnt fancy getting the sledge out so just wondered if anyone knew how to remove these little blighters without losing any fingers (or worse)???
Cheers for any advice before i end up in casualty with a squashed foot and a socket in my forehead, hahahahahaha!

Re- Parts needed
Katsoulinos, theres a bit more involved than simply buying a set of disks and installing them. Youll need: disk-type wivel hubs (FAM2390 (R/H) FAM2391 (L/H)) and ball joints, grease nipples, outer CV joints, drive flanges, Timkin wheel bearings, flexible hoses, disks, calipers, hub nuts + split pins etc... - Dont forget to also install a pair of spacered rear drums also, as the front tracking width will change!!! You can read more on this here in Calvers Corner: http://www.minispares.com/Article.aspx?aid=121 http://www.minispares.com/Article.aspx?aid=124 http://www.minispares.com/Article.aspx?aid=116 http://www.minispares.com/Article.aspx?aid=125 Also, I recommend studying (or printing) the Classic Parts catalogue, particularly the Suspension and Brakes chapters - look at all the bits that are unique to disk brake systems: http://www.minispares.com/Auth/Downloads2.aspx?con=cmpc&if=../Html/ClassicMechanicalPartsCatalogue/mini_akm2_index.htm If you plan the job well, the conversion will go rather smoothly - just know what you want in advance. Also, if you do a product search (on this site) for part # C-AJJ4028, youll see 3 very cost effective methods of converting from drums to 7.5 S disks. Believe me, it costs a lot less to do it in a complete kit - I didnt and wish I did (I could have used the savings for more parts!). Of course, youll still need a pair of rear drums (GDB106) I hope this helps!

Re:
Did you use the rear tapered roller wheel bearing kit?
Mini Spares claims that all original Mini Cooper S and post 1985 Minis were fitted with these. But my 1990 Mini Cooper wasn't and that had the old roller ball bearing type, so I fitted the tapered type when they expired.
Mini Spares supply these: -

Click Me 2
So if you have fitted the tapered roller type, then I'd say you need the spacer.

1275GT Rally Car Brakes
Hi,
Master cylinder should be GMC172, 0.70" bore, 75mm high reservoir.
Servo to use is 13H7939. I'd try it on the fronts only but check the fitting kit notes. (I servo'd all 4 on a triumph and the back is way too lively under braking)
Braking system is single line at that age for RHD cars.
1275GT up to 1974 had a pressure regulator 21A1774 but for some reason 74-75 versions had a simple 3-way joint, 3H2424.
Rear wheel cylinders for 74-75 version with 7.5" discs are GWC1101.
Regarding those Minifins - don't buy them yet. You need to check with the scrutineers to see if they are allowed. Basically, if they weren't factory tuning options OR commonly available from tuning workshops/garages for the period you are racing in then you won't be allowed to compete. (you need to find a period advert for the Minifin drums to be able to prove it - I managed to help with the GT6 raced by the Telegraph motoring correspondent who needed proof of certain mods for historic rallying - I had the period SAH tuning catalog for that year listing his parts)
If Minifins aren't allowed then you'll need the cast iron version I'm afraid.

For Sale My Kernow Mini and loads of spares
Due to a new baby arriving in the next few weeks which will take all my free time away,i have decided to sell my mini. She started as a 1988 city e but when i bought her she had been made into a rover cooper lookalike which the cooper arches, alloys etc http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...ve/PICT0020.jpg the engine is from a MG metro with the following added : 1.5 high lift rocker set Aldon comp dizzy K & N pancake filter and stub-stack Heavy duty clutch picture of the engine bay can be found here : http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...uDave/mini3.jpg it has a maniflow manifold and centre exhaust system. The mini had orignally a metro interior which i didnt like so i sourced a set of seats from a 1999 rover cooper which look far better. I have been collecting parts which i want to fit to her but just never had the time and with the new baby that will be even less here is a list of what is in the garage with the mini : Minisport suspension kit Hi/los shocks adjustable tie rods full poly bush kit rear camber brackets. new quick-rack steering rack Refurbished metro 4-pot brake calipers metro 4-pot brake hose kit Minisport sure stop brake kit for normal mini claipers (grooved and drilled discs and performance pads) and braided brake hose set. Metro drive flanges with the wheel locating lugs removed ERA turbo brake caliper bolts for the metro claipers Metro vented discs and performance pads competetion track rod ends front wheel bearing kit for both sides front ball joint kits x2 KAD quickshift the new version that doesnt need a donor stick and has the collar reverse selector 2x front seat anti-tip bars new carpet set and under felt set boxed car alarm spare new water pump ( the present one is fine and doesnt leak) new fuel tank sender the one fitted one goes to half a tank then drops new speedo cable the one fitted recently packed in the overall condition of the car is very good,i do keep it garaged and its only really used at weekends and maybe once during the week. The only place where rust is coming through is 2 places and is very minimal and i will post more pics tomorrow. the interior is very good and has a walnut dash,cd stereo etc she is taxed and MOT til end of december and flew through the last one with no faults !!! The Kernow Flag is just a PVC decal so can be easily removed if a non-cornish buyer is interested. I am very sad to see her go but i would love her to go to someone who has the time to fit all these parts and give her a loving home. feel free to contact me if you would a look or test drive. I am looking for £2500 and would pref to sell as a one lot rather than split
